Riot police patrolled a port town in India's western Gujarat state Tuesday -- a day after two people were killed in Hindu-Muslim clashes that erupted after a Muslim boy allegedly teased a Hindu girl.
Authorities say there have been no new incidents of violence since late Monday, when a strict curfew was imposed on the town of Vereval, about 320-kilometers southwest of Ahmedabad -- the state's main city.
Police officials said dozens of people have been arrested in connection with rioting, arson and looting.
Gujarat has suffered sporadic communal clashes since 2002, when more than 1,000 people -- mostly Muslims -- were killed in religious riots that flared after a Muslim mob allegedly set a train on fire, killing 59 Hindus.
